Music: The Strumbellas

The Strumbellas are an Ontario folk rock band with a bit of an alternative country feel. They are a six-piece band consisting of Simon Ward (vocals and acoustic guitar), David Ritter (piano, organ, percussion and vocals), Jon Hembrey (electric guitar, mandolin and vocals), Isabel Ritchie (violin, viola and vocals), Darryl James (bass and vocals), Jeremy Drury (drums, percussion and vocals) and any additional music by Kimo Muraki (banjo, coronet, trumpet, tenor sax and vocals).

They were nominated for a Juno Award in 2013 for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. In 2013 they released their second full length album We Still Move on Dance Floors. This is the kind of music you dance to at a Folk Festival (Hint, Hint Winnipeg Folk Festival). My mom found these guys for me during previews before a movie she was at (same way I found Serena Ryder) and she thought I would enjoy them and do I ever!

The song "Ride On" got me right away but I quickly became a big fan of "Sailing". Have a listen below and make sure you check out their full album (and maybe purchase it) on their BandCamp page.

I love my friends / Like the morning sun / And I get love when the darkness comes / I gave my heart to this funeral town / But I’ll strap my boots and I’m leavin now
