The stage was lined with cut out trees that added extra lights to the set, a giant drum was rolled out to centre stage and Dan Reynolds came out looking bad ass in his leather jacket with his collar popped and confidence to boot. This is the first time I've seen the Las Vegas band Imagine Dragons, consisting of frontman Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman live in concert. While they oozed with confidence they were also incredibly humble. Reynolds thanked the audience between almost every song and was giddy with excitement for all the love he and his band were shown.
Reynolds was extremely entertaining to watch spinning and jumping around the stage the energy was incredible. He was never afraid to let the audience take over his singing duties and after he performed "Radioactive" I thought he was going to die, he gave his all for that song.
This band is going to blow up soon I am sure of it. The audience was so diverse, there were high schoolers, young adults and even parents were at this show with their kids, men and women across the board. That is the sign of something big when you can appeal to such a huge demographic.
One of the opening bands were Atlas Genius from Adelaide, Australia is made up of brothers Keith Jeffery (vocalist/guitarist) and Michael Jeffery (drummer) as well as keyboardist Darren Sell. Their album When It Was Now is available on iTunes. Off of that album the most popular is "Trojans" but my favourite was "If So". Described as alternative they are three fun loving guys who are great with the audience and the accents don't hurt either.
The first opener was Nico Vega made up of singer and lyricist Aja Volkman, guitarist Rich Koehler, drummer Dan Epand and travelling bassist Jamila Weaver. This mighty band has a wildly energetic leader, Volkman. Small but fearless and she may have more energy than her husband, Imagine Dragons frontman, Dan Reynolds. What I liked most about Nico Vega is that while I realize their sound is more rock I still feel like I can’t stick a genre on them, their sound was their own and that’s pretty cool. They have an EP out called Fury Oh Fury and the most popular song on the EP is "Beast" and one of my favourites is the title track "Fury Oh Fury".
It was such a great show from all three bands full of energy. Imagine Dragons said they were making plans to come back to Winnipeg so don't miss out next time.
