Chidera Eggerue is a writer and fashion blogger but most of you may know her by her pen name The Slumflower. Eggerue was born to a family of Igbo decent and raised in Southeast London in Peckham, a neighborhood that is mostly British Nigerian.
Eggerue studied fashion design but was unable to finish due to struggles with depression. Eggere was not about to let failure stop her so she paved her own path. She is best known for her book, What a Time to Be Alone and the online campaign #SaggyBoobsMatter.
Eggerue was sick of being scrutinized for not wearing a bra and in 2017 she decided to do something about it. She started #SaggyBoobsMatter, a hashtag that became poplar on Twitter and Instagram. She was out to challenge those who thought it necessary that women with large boobs MUST wear a bra if their breasts sag. This partly came from insecurities growing up and not looking the model on the packaging of her first bra.
After gaining such a massive following Eggerue was influenced by her followers to create a zine and What a Time to be Alone: The Slumflower's Guide to Why You Are Already Enough* was born in the summer of 2018! Only a few days after publication the self-love book became a Sunday Times bestseller. The book contains advice on how women can be happy alone and is sprinkled with Igbo proverbs throughout.
