Jameela Jamil is an actress, model and activist born in the United Kingdom to an Indian father and Pakistani mother. Jamil started her career wanting to mold minds as an English teacher and she hasn’t stopped since, even though she’s left her teaching job to peruse other dreams.
Her next endeavour took her to BBC Radio 1 as a radio host and Jamil made radio history becoming the first sole female presenter of the BBC Radio 1 Chart show. After moving to America to become a screenwriter Jamil auditioned for Michael Schur and was cast as Tahani Al-Jamil in the American television series The Good Place. The show has been very well received and was even nominated for a Golden Globe.
Jamil is steadfast in her pursuit to take down people and industries that make women question themselves and their natural bodies. in 2018 she launched an Instagram account called I Weigh after she saw a post online of the Kardashians with each of their weights posted underneath. I weigh was designed to have people look at themselves was more than just their bodies or their weight so she called on others to weigh themselves in different ways like the things you enjoy, the things you’re proud of and the qualities you possess.
One of our most favourite posts of hers to date is her ad for Aerie that is untouched and showing her arm hair, because arm hair is “F*CKING NORMAL”.
