I thought I had done a full post on them before, but apparently I just mentioned them in a year end round up, Music of 2014. They deserve more than just a mention and anyway my favourite song has changed since then.
Bear's Den is a Folk-Alternative band from London, England. The band is made up of Andrew Davie, Kevin Jones and Joey Haynes. They released their debut album late last year titled Islands under the label Communion Records. The label was founded in 2006 by Jones, Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons and producer Ian Grimble. They've toured with Mumford & Sons, Ben Howard and Daughter.
They put on an incredible show, they played an encore that began with them coming into the crowd (right behind me and it was amazing) to play "Bad Blood" it was a beautifully intimate moment. To follow they made a joke about how they ask people to name their favourite American artists and they always just end up naming great Canadian artists like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Celine Dion (ok, there were some giggles with that last one). Anyway, they wanted to play us one more song and decided to cover a song by a Canadian artist, what did we get? "Hold On, We're Going Home" by Drake and it was so good!
They were so incredibly humble. In a room full of screaming fans singing along to every song they couldn't keep the smiles off their faces, and THAT is what I love so much about live music. A very close second would be the euphoria it gives me, and not just for the night, I mean for a couple weeks after a show. So thank you Bear's Den for a beautiful night.
